Closed and Open Loop Control of Steppers and 2 Phase Brushless Motors
Previously it was not possible to control stepper motors or two-phase brushless motors using the SPiiPlus Control Modules. These were originally designated to control only three phase brushless or DC motors.
Since there are many industry applications where stepper motors are used, it was important to find the option to connect a stepper motor to a single, three-phase amplifier.
This application note describes how to directly control two-phase steppers or brushless motors with the SPiiPlus CM and the SPiiPlus MC4U control modules.
This new application allows the standard SPiiPlus Control Modules to control any combination of the following motors:
- Two- or Three-phase brushless motors
- DC servo motors
- Two-phase steppers in open loop (micro-stepping)
- Two-phase steppers in closed loop
The application is compatible with firmware version 6.00.
