What's in the SPii name?
SPii stands for ACS Motion Control second generation ASIC Servo Processor. The SPii ASIC is based on a 120MHz RISC core designed and optimized by ACS Motion Control for real time motion control algorithms. It combines all the peripherals required to implement a complete, high-performance, all digital motion control system. All of our standard and customized SPiiPlus control products are based on the SPii processor.
What applications are best served by SPiiPlus products?
SPiiPlus products are designed to meet the requirements of the most demanding applications including semiconductor manufacturing and inspection, electronic assembly and testing, medical imaging and digital printing equipment. The SPiiPlus is also found in many other sophisticated machines in the fields of automation and robotics.
Why are more and more OEMs around the world going with the SPiiPlus in their new machines?
- SPiiPlus control products provide the best price/benefit ratio for advanced multi-axis applications and include many unique features like, for example:
- Extremely fast 20kHz update rate for all controlled loops, providing very wide bandwidth, while delivering exceptional dynamic tracking, fast settling and excellent smoothness at low velocities.
- Up to sub-nanometer position interpolation of sin-cos encoder feedback
- Advanced, flexible and easy to adjust PIV control algorithms and filters that can be customized to address special needs. Moreover, with our unique Frequency Response Function (FRF) analysis and filter design tool, users can quantify system bandwidth and stability by calculating and presenting the phase and gain margins.
- Up to ten programs can run simultaneously with multiple interactions and synchronized processes.
- Built-in functions for dynamic compensation of mechanical error (based on error mapping) and inverse kinematics for coordinate transformations.
- Third-order profile generation with various motion modes from simple point-to-point to advanced PVT cubic interpolation.
- Ability to change motion and other variables, including velocity, acceleration, jerk, target positing, and more, at any stage of the motion profile.
- High Speed Synchronous Interface (HSSI) enables fast networking options with of-the-shelf axis distribution and I/O remote expansion modules.
Why do we say, "The SPiiPlus software environment is in a class of its own compared to all other motion controller software in the market?"
The SPiiPlus software environment includes an extensive tool suite to help you shorten machine development cycles and time-to-market deployment. The following list highlights some of our software features:
- The ACSPL high-level motion language includes a rich set of commands and functions that enables implementation of complicated motion profiles and highly complex motion-time-event sequences.
- A four-channel soft oscilloscope can monitor all motion, I/Os, servo, and user-defined variables.
- A unique multi-axis motion simulator to expedite application development for host-dependant or stand-alone systems.
- A complete suite of user-friendly software tools for system setup, axis tuning, safety event handling, and user application debugging.
- Special software libraries support various host-dependent methods of operation.
- During the machine production phase, advance analysis and diagnostic tools let you efficiently troubleshoot potential problems.
What categories of products are included in the SPiiPlus series?
The SPiiPlus series includes the following categories of products:
- Motion Controllers: PC-based, stand-alone or rack mounted multi-axis controllers that support direct-connected servo or stepper motors and HSSI-networked servo drives. All of our motion controllers include digital, analog, and safety I/Os.
- Motion Control Modules (CM): Multi-axis controllers with up to three integrated digital drives. Control Modules support direct-connected servo-motors, direct-connected stepper drives, and HSSI-networked servo drives. Motion Control Modules include digital, analog, and safety I/Os.
- HSSI Modules: External modules that connect to the controller's High-Speed Synchronous Serial Interface (HSSI) channel over standard Ethernet type cables. The HSSI modules enable distributed axis control, digital or analog I/O expansion.
